PROJECTS

Sag Harbor Partnership works with community organizations and Sag Harbor Village government on projects that both preserve and enhance the character of this vibrant place.

Highlighted here are a few recent projects that we feel showcase the scope of our work.

havens beach watershed

In 2022, the Village of Sag Harbor secured a grant from the NYS LWRP Program to partially fund a comprehensive study of the Havens Beach watershed and the environment surrounding it. Beginning in 2024, Sag Harbor Partnership has been helping to raise additional funds to ensure the success of this important research on a critical part of our local ecosystem.

SAG HARBOR WATER QUALITY INITIATIVE

In 2018, Sag Harbor Partnership worked with the Sag Harbor Yacht Club, Sag Harbor Village, and East Hampton and Southampton Town Trustees to raise funds for a study of the water quality in Sag Harbor. The two-year study (April–October in 2018 and 2019) was undertaken by Dr. Christopher Gobler of Stony Brook University’s School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences in Southampton.

Restoration and Reopening of the Firemen’s Museum

And now for our new project! We considered several, but the one that the Mayor, the Village Board of Trustees, our community and our Board definitely determined was most viable now is the Restoration and Reopening of the Firemen’s Museum at 46 Church Street, honoring the history of the FIRST volunteer fire department of New York State (1803), and one of the first in America. The property is Village-owned, and it was an active public museum for many years but has been closed for several years and has fallen into some disrepair. It housed fascinating historic equipment, now in storage, used since the 1800s that includes photographs, axes, leather buckets for fire brigades, and other memorabilia. Children, in particular, delighted in exploring its wonders. Our plan is to make it a family-friendly experience that is educational and fun while honoring our magnificent Volunteer Fire Department.
