After a fire nearly destroyed the cinema in 2016, several of the members of Sag Harbor Partnership’s board helped to purchase the building in early 2017.
Fundraising efforts led by Sag Harbor Partnership, along with generous grants from the Town of Southampton, Empire State Development Fund, and donations from more than 2000 individuals and foundations helped raised enough money to complete reconstruction of the cinema.
The Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Center, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, was created and the Sag Harbor Cinema officially reopened in June of 2021.
